Grassland and Dairy Cow Nutrition


Sinclair has worked in research and development for over 30 years, initially at the Grassland Research Institute in England, and then at the Agricultural Research Institute of Northern Ireland, which became part of the Agri Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) in 2006.  His research interests include grass production and utilisation, improving the efficiency of milk production systems and reducing the environmental impact of livestock production systems. Following the creation of AFBI in 2006, he became Head of Agriculture Branch. From 2009 to 2013 he was Departmental Scientific Adviser with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Northern Ireland, before returning to AFBI as Director of Sustainable Agrifood Sciences Division. He was appointed Chief Executive of AFBI in 2016. Sinclair was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Agricultural Societies in 2004 and is a Past President of the British Society of Animal Science and British Grassland Society.
