Dr Jon Moorby
Grassland & Nutrition

Jon Moorby is a reader in ruminant nutrition at the Institute of Biological, Environmental, and Rural Sciences (IBERS), part of Aberystwyth University.  He graduated from Oxford University with a BA in Pure and Applied Biology, and went on to do a PhD in dairy research at the Scottish Agricultural College, Auchincruive, near Ayr.  His research focusses on ways of improving the efficiency of ruminant livestock production – maintaining or improving animal productivity while reducing the environmental impact of production.  Dietary manipulation can be used to optimise the partitioning of nutrients into meat and milk and away from emissions of pollutants such as methane and waste nitrogen.  Much of his work has been in collaboration with the plant breeders at Aberystwyth with the aim of improving the use of fresh and conserved forages as feeds.
